This year at the Town Show, Access Group had the opportunity of a space in the Road Safety Marquee. This was appropriate as Road Safety is a big issue for disabled people. The general public little realise how the things they do might have a high risk impact on disabled people or even be downright dangerous.
The tent was laid out as a street scene showing various hazards for and by motorists, motorcyclists, and other road users and included such exhibitors as Transport for London and other organisations concerned with the street environment.
Access Group in collaboration with London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Access Officers had the chance to put their ideas into the scene and to have in the area of their stand tactile paving and other signage that help disabled people. Simon, Assistant Access Officer, and Steve Wright developed two Power point presentations which highlighted further examples of hazards to disabled road users.
The siting of the marquees meant that there was less people than the large crowd walking through the tents that we experienced last year, but we had a good showing in compatible surroundings and some interested contacts were made.
A great big thank you to Lee, LBBD Road Safety Officer, who welcomed Access to share his Road Safety Tent.
