This year the Access Group and local Council Access Officer had our most successful Town Show ever. We brought a string of firsts for us, to the show including;
Exclusive preview of our web site www.badaccess.org.uk, displayed on a 42" screen
The first ever cinema at the show, which showed two films about disabled peoples lives and issues. Even the traditional popcorn for our cinema go'ers was free.
2000 Access Group, free promotional pens and balloons for visitors.
Our largest display of images from around the borough, showing improvements in accessibility for disabled people.
This was our biggest drive to promote awareness of disabled peoples accessibility issues. Nearly 100 visitors signed up to become new members, almost double last years response. Hundreds of visitors stopped and chatted with our volunteers. Over a thousand of our leaflets were taken. Our public Access and Planning Review Forum (APRF) meetings held at Barking Town Hall, and the work we do with it, also attracted a lot of interest.
Barking and Dagenham Council Access officers, Stephen Knell and his assistant Simon Blewett were on hand promoting the work they do. They were also able to offer support for visitors who had detailed problems for Stephen and Simon to deal with.
