APRF supporters and Council officers.
if you just complain to your friends about:
How hard it is to find an accessible parking bay.
How difficult it is to squeeze through the doctors' surgery in your wheelchair.
How forms have such tiny writing.
How your local pub or restaurant treat their accessible toilet as storage space.
Your friends will probably also just moan and nothing will change.
Come to the APRF and you can make sure your complaints get heard by the people and organisations who can fix these problems; council departments, builders, planners, architects, National Health Service etc.
The 2nd Tuesday of each month at Barking Town Hall: 4:30pm to 7pm
We have meetings that are open to all members of the public. We look at plans submitted to the local council planning department. It may not sound exciting but we make a difference to the accessibility of all places open to the public. We help ensure that all new builds are built to at least currently acceptable minimums and that planners, architects etc. are kept on their toes when it comes to best practice. We make sure the right people hear about the problems that have been brought to our attention and do all we can to get them fixed.
From the size of a door opening to the colour of a sign, from the frequency of road crossing points to the positioning of emergency cords in toilets, we scan through plans and make recommendations to help ensure that everyone has a fair and equal ability to access facilities, buildings and services.
The Barking and Dagenham Access Officer attends most meetings and other Council officers or organisations attend as the need arises.
Feel free to join us on any of the above dates. The meetings are informal and you can come to as many or as few as you like. You don't have to be formally qualified to get involved. Your expertise will come from your personal experience of disability issues. your voluntary input will be always be welcome.
If you have a question please Contact us or the Access Officer.
